A well-known Christian singer-songwriter is encouraging others to share the “broken chapters” of their lives.

Award-winning artist Matthew West has told The Crazy Happy Podcast that when believers keep their feelings inside, they are allowing the enemy to have a foothold.

He says Satan wants to keep Christians isolated and make them believe they’re alone in their struggle, because happiness can’t survive in that environment of shame.

He says being honest and vulnerable does not mean “airing your dirty laundry for all the world to hear”, but acknowledging that “that you’re a sinner in need of God’s grace, and then being willing for God to use even the rough around the edges parts of your story.”

The Christian Post reports, West often writes songs based on submissions from fans, pointing them to hope rather than despair.

He says by being involved in someone else’s story, we take the focus off our problems, which does wonders for our perspective.

West says the more stories he hears, the more he realises that “all of our stories have some broken chapters” and they’re “in need of healing.”
