Essendon is counting the cost of their 43-point AFL win over St Kilda, after having no fit players on the bench for the last quarter.
The 18.14 (122) to 11.13 (79) win at Etihad Stadium mathematically keeps the Bombers in the finals hunt.
Bomber Tom Bell-chambers says the club knows there a lot of work to do in the coming weeks.
The Bombers almost certainly need to win their remaining matches to have any chance in September calculations.
Bombers’ coach John Worsfold said “The players were wonderful, the way they understood what they had to do and how we wanted the game to be played as we slowly lost players,”
Injuries included a hyperextended right knee for Brendon Goddard in the first quarter; Adam Saad was stretchered off with concussion; Kyle Langford suffered a left shoulder injury but he returned to the ground; Cale Hooker had a problem with his right knee complaint and Orazio Fantasia had a left hamstring issue.
