The Trump administration has vowed to hold fast and not remove a Bible from an American medical centre for veterans.
A lawsuit was brought against the Veterans Administration Medical Centre in New Hampshire by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, which claimed it was unconstitutional.
The Bible in question was carried by a POW in World War II and forms the centrepiece of a display in the hospital lobby known as “Missing Man” which honours missing veterans.
Vice President Mike Pence addressed the issue in a recent speech, declaring that “the Bible stays” and that “VA hospitals will not be religion-free zones”.
He went on to say that spiritual needs of veterans will always be looked after by the Trump administration.
Mr Pence’s words were met with a standing ovation from the audience at the American Legion National Convention in Indianapolis.
