The United Kingdom has reached a sombre milestone, recording more than 100,000 deaths from COVID-19.
It’s the first European nation to pass the landmark figure, and the fifth country globally.
The number of new cases has been falling, but the number of people in hospital remains high.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says it’s a sad day, for which he takes full responsibility.
“When we’ve come through this crisis, we will come together, as a nation to remember everyone we lost, and to honour the selfless heroism of all those on the frontline who gave their lives to save others”, said Mr Johnson.
It’s almost a year since the first cases were detected.
