The United States is releasing a “playbook” plan for widespread distribution of a coronavirus vaccine within months.

Federal health agencies sketched out plans for a vaccination program to begin gradually, possibly later this year or in January 2021.

It would eventually become available to all Americans for free.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the warning signs for COVID-19 were ignored.

“We had MERS [Middle East Respiratory Syndrome] in 2012, a coronavirus that came from China. What did we do? Nothing – and then we have COVID. It’s not that it came out of the blue,” Mr Cuomo says.

An Associated Press poll taken in May found one in five Americans said they would not get a coronavirus vaccine, and 31 per cent said they were unsure.
