Footage has emerged of a man forcibly removing a large cross from the roof of an East London church in an act of vandalism.
According to Premier News, Police made an arrest following the incident at Chadwell Baptist Church in Dagenham.
Witnesses say the man threw the large cross onto the street below.
In a statement, the church said they’re thankful no one was hurt and they didn’t want the incident to affect their ministry.
The church vicar, Reverend James Thomas, said it quickly became clear the man was mentally unwell.
Reverend Thomas said the cross was retrieved and no harm was done to himself or anyone else.
He also expressed his relief that the man hadn’t fallen from the roof.
Reverend Thomas says it was frustrating to have the church vandalised, but material things can be fixed.
