The search is on to find the greatest hymn of all time.
Voting commenced in May on The Hymn Society’s website and on Facebook, and looks at both the lyrics and tunes of each song.
Religion News Service reports that the hymns have been divided into different categories and so far so new and old favourites are leading the way.
Holy, Holy, Holy! is number one in hymns which feature a different text in each stanza and no refrain.
The top-seeded song in the refrain division is When Peace, Like a River, known best for the repeated phrase, “It is well with my soul.”
In Christ Alone has featured strongly in the contemporary worship songs division.
Voters have included church music professors, hymn writers, other musicians and pastors.
The winner will be announced later this month.
