ABOUT

South Australia joined the Vision family in 2001, with the first relay station opening in Port Augusta in September of that year. It's a state of extremes — Australia's highest-ever temperatures were recorded here. The state boasts a highly successful wine-growing region — but it's also home to the empty expanse of the Nullarbor plain and the vast, inhospitable Outback desert. Some of our transmitters are in those remote areas — like Roxby Downs, a town built from nothing in 1987 to service a local mine and processing plant where temperatures can range each year between -6 and 48 degrees. It's in places like this that listeners tell us Vision forms a lifeline for them to the rest of the body of Christ. Other stations are located in tourist areas such the Eyre Peninsula, or in farming towns like Keith and Renmark.

HISTORY

Hot on the heels of South Australia's first station in Port Augusta in 2001 were transmitters the following year in Mount Barker, Kimba, Cleve, Port Pirie and Tailem Bend. The capital city, Adelaide, is served by a powerful 400W AM transmitter broadcasting on 1611kHz and based in Salisbury East. That service came on line in 2010. There's been a steady growth in the number of relays across the state, in centres like Whyalla, Coober Pedy and Port Lincoln. There are currently over 60 transmitters across the state.
