South Australia will be the first state to welcome a major crowd for a sporting event.

Two thousand people will be permitted through the gates for this weekend’s AFL Showdown between Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens says people will also be able to sit in corporate areas.

“The Adelaide Oval has a very detailed plan as to how they are going to accommodate 2,000 people, ensuring very strong social distancing and those people will be seated in the general admission area of the oval complex itself,” Commissioner Stevens says.

“There will be other small groups of 20 able to use some of the private rooms in the stadium area as well.”

The Queensland Government will keep the gates closed at games for at least another week, while games in Victoria will also proceed without crowds.
