Vision’s radio station in Lake Cargelligo, NSW, went to air on the?4th of June 2024. This is Vision’s 86th radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 825th station overall.
After no responses from locals in town we went back to a supporter located 1 km out of town. After waiting eight days to receive approval, the radio station was installed by Vision’s technician, John Wilcox.
Discover Lake Cargelligo
Lake Cargelligo has a population of 1,430 and is located 551 km west of Sydney via Orange, Parkes and Condobolin. It’s positioned in the red centre of NSW, in the Lachlan Shire, near the Lachlan River, one of the main river systems in Australia. It is the largest natural inland lake system in NSW having a volume of 36,000 mega litres, a surface area of 1,440 hectares and an average depth of 3.7 metres making it a haven for water skiing, fishing, canoeing, swimming and a beautiful camping spot.
In 1817, the explorer, John Oxley passed through the district, but it wasn’t until 1873 when a woman who was a cook at a burr cutter’s camp found gold near the south-west side of the lake.

Horse lovers will appreciate the Larne Draught Horses. Steve offers tours where you can see his collection of horse drawn vehicles, farm machinery and harness and leather workshop.
Lake Cargelligo is also a popular bird watching hot spot with over 230 bird species recorded in the local area due to the large wetland system.
Nearby is Naradhan Station Woolshed was built in 1888 on ‘Morwell’, Naradhan, accomodating up to 30 shearers. It’s still in operation today and worth a visit.
The Wiradjuri people have lived in these areas along with the Ngiyampaa and Paakantyi who were further out west.
