Vision’s radio station in Warialda, New South Wales, went to air on the?28th of June 2024. This is Vision’s 90th radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 829th station overall.

Warialda has a population of 1,480 and is located at the junction of the Fossickers Way and the Gwydir Highway, 597 km north of Sydney (just over 7 hours drive) or five hours from Brisbane and 90 minutes from Glen Innes. The closest airport is Moree with car rentals available for the one-hour drive to Warialda.
Warialda means ‘place of wild honey’ in the local Aboriginal language, although it’s more famous for its gold, sapphires and gems that have been fossicked there since the 19th century. If gems are your interest, head to the Wells Gem and Mineral Collection in the town centre to polish up your knowledge of gemstones. It might inspire you to go fossicking and see what you can find.
For the history buffs, Carinda House was built around 1880 for the Crane family. Mr Crane had a varied career as a saddler, butcher, farmer and grazier and owner of the Royal Hotel. Carinda was constructed with timber slabs with horse stables adjacent. In the early 1990s the top floor was added and is now an art gallery and store selling crafts, knitted babwear, stationary, souvenirs, baked goods, and jams.
Nature-lovers are going to love exploring Cranky Rock Nature Reserve, nestled in picturesque bushland at the edge of Reedy Creek, a natural waterhole that is sought after to cool off in the summer months. The reserve is a popular place for picnics, camping, birdwatching and is a photographer’s paradise. It has free gas barbecues, a sheltered area, public toilets, children’s playground and kiosk. It is located 8 kilometres east of Warialda on the Gwydir Highway. Entry to the reserve is free.
Koorilgur Nature Reserve is popular with bushwalkers. It’s been divided into different length tracks to suit those wanting to take a casual stroll as well as the more adventurous bush walkers. A special feature are the rock markings from the original sandstone mining days, not to mention the spectacular views across the valley.
The Ceramic Break Sculpture Park is a must see. It’s located 15 km from Warialda on the Bingara Road. It has three stylish galleries with sculptures and artwork, and exhibitions of local artists.
