Dear friends,
In recent weeks, we have seen a political scrap over the inclusion of new questions about gender identity in the 2026 census. This is yet another divisive public debate challenging traditional values.
Imagine how the men and women who crafted our first census in 1828 would feel about how different our leaders think today. They were not perfect, and not all knew God. However, their thinking was underpinned by Judaeo-Christian values. These values laid the foundation for a stable and prosperous nation.
Australia is at a Crossroads
Consider this chart, published by the Atheist Foundation of Australia after the 2021 census results. These figures should alarm us. When our values are compromised and we remove Christ from our foundation, we are on shaky ground. It is no surprise that anxiety is a common mental health condition, affecting a significant portion of the population!
But there is good news. Australians embrace God’s truth when they hear and see it shared with authenticity and love. You and I know this to be true!
We have a choice—do nothing and hope for the best, OR we can be proactive in prayerfully advancing the Gospel in Australia during our day-to-day lives and also through impactful ministries like Vision. As a believer, parent and grandparent concerned for God’s mission and future generations, I choose to act! How about you?
The Early Church’s Example
This is not the first time in history that believers have been faced with making a choice. The first-century church flourished in times of great turmoil. The government demanded unbridled allegiance to Caesar. There was also conflict between Jews and Gentiles. Yet those early believers chose to literally give their all to the cause of Christ, empowered by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and a revelation of the truth of God.
We hold the same keys today. We can live out the Gospel of the Kingdom for all to see and share the Gospel of salvation for all to hear.
‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age,’ Matthew 28: 19-20 NIV.
I pray that God will guide you, as His ambassador, to those you have direct contact with. I also pray that He will guide you about helping others, who you will most likely never meet, as we work together through Vision’s ministry.
