Commander Butch Wilmore Shares How Faith in Jesus Carried Him Through
Four astronauts have safely returned to Earth after spending nearly nine months aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The SpaceX Crew-7 mission splashed down off the coast of Florida, bringing an end to their mission in space.
Among the returning crew were NASA astronauts Commander Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, both highly experienced space travellers. They were joined by European Space Agency astronaut Andreas Mogensen and Roscosmos cosmonaut Konstantin Borisov.
During their time on the ISS, the crew carried out hundreds of scientific experiments, technology tests, and maintenance tasks—all while orbiting the Earth at over 28,000 kilometres per hour. Living and working in space for such an extended time is a huge test of physical and mental strength.
A Mission Filled With Challenges
But for Commander Butch Wilmore, it was his Christian faith that anchored him through the challenges. When asked about the biggest lesson from his time in space, Butch didn’t hesitate to share what kept him grounded. It was his faith in Jesus that carried him through.
“It all goes back to my faith. It’s bound in my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He is working out His plan and His purposes throughout all of Humanity. And I am content because I understand that,” Butch said.
His words are a powerful reminder that even in the vastness of space—far from home and everything familiar—God’s presence is near.
A Veteran Astronaut and a Trailblazer
Suni Williams, also part of the returning crew, is known for breaking barriers in spaceflight. This mission was her third spaceflight, and she is one of the few women to have spent extended time aboard the ISS. Together with her crew, she helped conduct vital research that will benefit future space missions and life back on Earth.
Faith That Reaches Beyond the Stars
Butch Wilmore’s honest words about his faith aren’t something you often hear in the headlines. Especially from someone in his position. But his reminder is simple and powerful: no matter where we are, even hundreds of kilometres above the Earth, God is still at work.
The truth of God’s Word remains the same: He is faithful, He is working, and we are never alone.
