On today’s episode of Enjoying Everyday Life, Joyce Meyer talks to us about how our thoughts can impact our lives and why it’s important to manage our minds for a happier life. Joyce believes that our thoughts directly influence our actions, feelings, and overall health. She points us to Romans 8:5 to highlight the difference between those who focus on their desires and those who seek spiritual fulfillment.
‘Whatever we put our mind on,’ says Joyce, ‘is what we’re going to go after. Our mind affects our emotions. What we think comes out of our mouths, and it affects all of our actions. We have to learn how to think things on purpose that are going to benefit us.’
We can’t live a spiritual life if we only focus on our physical desires. Joyce encourages Christians not to settle for misery but to pursue joy instead. She believes that Jesus came to give us a full, abundant life, as mentioned in John 10:10. Joy is important not just for our own happiness, but also as a powerful way to show others our faith.
Our thoughts can impact our lives
‘Every one of us,’ says Joyce, ‘has a blood-bought, Christ paid for, God ordained right to enjoy every single moment of our lives. Joy doesn’t only just feel good; it’s very necessary. It’s the best advertisement that we can have for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.’
Joyce talks about using spiritual tools to overcome negative influences, emphasising the importance of God’s Word. She encourages us to spend time in the Scriptures by reading, singing, and worshiping, to help push away negative thoughts. A good understanding of the Bible can keep us from being led astray.
‘Would you rather spend the rest of your life deceived and miserable?’ says Joyce, ‘Or would you like to face the truth that you have an enemy? You don’t need to be so concerned about him because God is much greater than He is. But neither can you ignore him. Jesus did not ignore the devil and we cannot ignore him either. Our mind is the battlefield.’
Joyce urges us to understand our mental struggles and to trust in God’s power to help us overcome them. By embracing the truths found in the Bible and practicing self-control over our thoughts, we can live a life of victory through Christ.
‘And God will help you have that victory,’ says Joyce.
