Chris Tomlin is a name that is synonymous with contemporary Christian music. With a career spanning over two decades, Tomlin has established himself as a pioneer in the Christian music industry. He is known for his heartfelt worship songs and has written and produced numerous chart-topping hits.
Early Life
Chris was born on May 4, 1972, in Grand Saline, Texas. He grew up in a family of musicians and started playing the guitar at an early age. At the age of nine, he wrote his first song – a Christmas song called Emmanuel.
Tomlin attended Tyler Junior College and later transferred to Texas A&M University. He moved to Austin, Texas, where he began working at a church as a worship leader.
Musical Journey
In 1995, Tomlin released his first album, titled Inside Your Love. However, it was his third album, The Noise We Make, that garnered him national attention. This album features the popular worship song Forever, which became a staple at churches across the world.
Tomlin’s success continued with the release of his fourth album, Not to Us, which featured the hit singles Famous One and Enough. He gained international acclaim with his seventh album, Hello Love, which debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart.
In 2010, Tomlin released his album And If Our God Is for Us…, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. He has also won numerous Dove Awards, including Songwriter of the Year in 2006 and 2007 and Artist of the Year in 2008 and 2009.
Contribution to Christian Music
Tomlin’s contribution to the world of Christian music is immeasurable. Some of his most popular songs include How Great Is Our God, Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), and Good Good Father.
Tomlin has also been instrumental in the Passion movement, a Christian organisation that aims to inspire young people to live for Christ. He has played a key role in the production of multiple Passion albums and has performed at numerous Passion conferences.
