Tens of thousands of believers flooded the streets of Paris last weekend to take part in a March For Jesus event. The turnout of 25,000 in the city was one of the biggest Christian gatherings to take place in recent years in France which rarely sees such large outpourings of faith.
“If we want to touch the world, there is one condition: it is to love each other as Christ loved us,” declared evangelist Jean Luc Trachsel who delivered the main message of the day in the shadows of the Eiffel Tower.
CBN News reports praise, prayer, and the Word of God resounded across Paris as participants fulfilled their mission to “bear witness publicly and in unity” about their faith in Jesus Christ. Most came from evangelical Protestant churches, but nearly all denominations and many cultures were represented. The event ended with a concert where some of the audience gave their lives to Jesus.
Simultaneously, thousands more believers marched through four other major French cities. The rallies took place in Nantes on the Atlantic Coast, Lille in the far north, and Metz and Strasbourg along the German border.
Gilbert Léonian, the pastor in charge of the Paris march, told the French outlet Info Chretienne (Christian Info) a few days before the event: “We must put Christ at the centre of everything. He is the only one who brings us together, through Whom we can be saved and respond to the needs of the French.” After the event he rejoiced: “I met Catholic, Pentecostal, charismatic brothers and sisters. I saw Baptists, I even saw Orthodox!”
Pastor Trachsel added: “Many people were saved, healed and baptised in the Holy Spirit. If we are here, it is not for a religion or to promote our church, but because there is Someone who has touched us deeply — Jesus.”
He concluded: “If God does this in France, He can and will do it throughout Europe and in the nations of the world. It is harvest time and revival has begun. In the midst of chaos, wars, opposition, and even persecution, the Glory of God arises as we arise to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a demonstration of power.”
