In the industrial suburb of Leschenult, Western Australia, the sound of machinery fills the air. Graeme Holman is hard at work, surrounded by a workshop full of tools. These tools, along with his extensive skills and experience, support various industries—including hospitals, restaurants, wineries, and hotels. Not just in maintaining their operations but also in fulfilling Graeme’s life’s calling. Blending his faith with his profession has become not only a passion but a unique way to share his faith.
Graeme’s journey to becoming an electrical contractor was sparked by a powerful sermon on aligning vocational work with God’s plans. This message struck a chord, motivating him to start his own business. However, this venture extended beyond just utilising his skills. It was about creating opportunities to serve his family and his community while living out his faith.
In his own words, Graeme shares, ‘I love fixing things. Often, I’m asked to fix equipment that nobody else has managed to, which can be quite old without any manuals or diagrams. You really need to understand how the engineer intended it to work to figure out why it isn’t. This challenge reminds me of a deeper truth: by understanding how things are designed to operate and restoring them to their purpose, I see a reflection of how God works in our lives.’
Dedicating Time to Community and Faith
Managing a business while dedicating time to community and faith presents challenges, but Graeme’s resilience is sustained by his beliefs. He also recounts navigating business trials with the guidance of his faith, which has taught him to trust in divine provision over his own calculations. His commitment to ethical conduct has quickly built a reputation for reliability in his business. Graeme recalls instances where, despite not being at fault, he absorbed the cost of unforeseen equipment failures, emphasising, ‘Our integrity is everything. It’s about doing the right thing, even when it’s tough.’
Beyond his business, Graeme has been a vital contributor to Vision Radio for over two decades, volunteering his technical skills to support Christian broadcasting across the country. ‘It’s about using what God gave me to help spread His word,’ he explains.
The satisfaction Graeme derives from his work doesn’t just stem from fixing what’s broken. It comes from knowing that each job is a step towards a higher purpose. ‘Understanding how things are meant to operate and restoring them—that’s a reflection of how faith works in our lives,’ he reflects. He extends this philosophy to mentoring his team, ensuring that his business practices mirror the values he cherishes.
The impact of Graeme’s faith-infused approach to business is clear ‘It’s all interconnected—my faith, my business, my purpose. Every service call, every repair, is an opportunity to serve, to give, and to demonstrate my faith through my actions.’
Graeme’s perspective is not just about a business journey, but a testament to living a life where professional and spiritual callings are intertwined, inspiring others to find and fulfill their God-given potential in all aspects of life, wherever they are.
