On this episode of A Different Perspective, Berni Dymet talks about the frustration we feel when things don’t happen as quickly as we’d like, especially when we think God should step in sooner. Many of us struggle with patience and perseverence, particularly when we’re young and full of dreams. But life often throws challenges at us, making us feel like we’re running out of time to succeed.
Berni points out that a lot of people struggle with not meeting their expectations in key areas of life, like jobs, money, and personal relationships. This can lead to things like a midlife crisis, where people feel a big gap between what they hoped for and what they actually have. As a result, many choose to settle for a life that is not fulfilling, leading to a sense of dissatisfaction.
‘The problem begins in our hearts,’ says Berni. ‘Because invariably, God has made us to be a certain person to do certain things. And naturally, we have a heart to be that person, to do those things, and become who God made us to be. But we often have a fast food mentality and we want instant success.’
Berni talks about the idea of overnight success, which many people believe in. But it’s mostly a myth. Real success usually comes from time and hard work, not instant fame. Berni encourages us to focus on long-term effort when chasing our goals, and not to give up at the first hurdle.
Moses’ Life is a great Example of Patience and Perseverance
Berni compares life to a marathon, not a short sprint. Using the story of Moses, Berni explains how Moses’ life is a great example of patience and perseverance. Moses lived for 120 years, and his life is divided into three key stages, each teaching important lessons.
Moses grew up as a prince in Egypt with a life of privilege, but he struggled with who he really was and felt deeply for his people’s suffering. This inner conflict led him to make an impulsive decision, forcing him to flee into the wilderness.’The heart that God had put into Moses was for His chosen people,’ says Berni. ‘And it ends up completely disrupting the life of privilege that Moses had lived for 40 years.’
God has a special purpose for each of us, but reaching it can bring challenges and moments of doubt. It may sometimes feel like God’s timing is different from ours. But Berni encourages us to trust God’s plan and live with faith.
‘Sometimes who you are, how God made you and what He made you to do,’ says Berni, ‘is going to seem to work against you and bring failure on your head. But don’t lose heart. God has a plan. It’s just that His plan rarely involves overnight success.’
