On this episode of Faith and the Future, Dr Kameel Majdali discusses the topic of salvation. Understanding salvation in Christ is crucial and includes many aspects. It means being saved from sin, sickness, danger, the evil in the world, the devil, death, and hell. These points are especially important when we read Revelation 20. It talks about Jesus ruling on Earth and the Great White Throne judgment.
Revelation 20:14, talks about death and hell being thrown into the lake of Fire. But Kameel believes this imagery offers comfort and assurance to believers. The idea that these powerful threats are defeated means not just the end of physical death and grief but also a promise that our past troubles will not be remembered.
‘It doesn’t just mean that there’ll be no more cemeteries, crematoriums or graveside services, weeping uncontrollably as a coffin is let down,’ says Kameel. ‘It means the former things have passed away and will not be brought to mind. It’s both very sobering, but equally very glorious.’
Hope is an anchor for our souls
Kameel also talks about how important hope is in the Bible, especially during tough times. Hope is an anchor for our souls, giving us strength and comfort when life gets hard. He explains how salvation strikes a major blow against big enemies like sin, sickness, and the troubles of the world—challenges people have faced for ages. The key message is that no one has fully defeated these enemies except Jesus of Nazareth, whose birth marks the start of the Gregorian calendar and who has conquered them all.
‘Our saviour is known to the world as Jesus of Nazareth,’ says Kameel, ‘whose approximate time of birth is the beginning of our calendar. That’s how fundamental He is. He defeated not one, not two, not three, but all seven enemies.’
‘That’s why He’s a great saviour. And that’s why He gives us a great salvation.’
