SVRCINA, an indie alternative pop artist based in California, embarked on her music journey at the age of fourteen when she signed her first publishing contract. Having spent many years living and working in Nashville, her evolution into a music career has been a gradual and deliberate process.
Previously known as Molly Hunt, SVRCINA has grown and changed as an artist. Her goal is to create music that is culturally transcendent, and growing up Christian praise and worship music were foundational for her. SVRCINA is grateful for the refining process she has been through in recent years, which included moving from Nashville to California.
‘The move ultimately was very much prompted by the Lord,’ she says. ‘I felt like He had given the green light to go out there, and it probably wouldn’t have been my first choice. However, there have been some amazing moves of God that have come out of Southern California.’
SRVCINA believes that God has provided many new opportunities for her to minister to and meet different people. ‘I do believe that the Lord put me there for this particular season. I’m grateful to have spent so much time in Nashville. But I could see where God was needing to stretch me outside of my comfort zone as an individual.’
In Los Angeles, the environment for Christian artists can be a lot more challenging when compared to Nashville. But SVRCINA believes that this added edge contributes something unique to the quality of her music.
‘I’ve been able to meet different people in the creative community that don’t yet know Jesus,’ she says. ‘They’re not following the Lord right now. But when you’re in a writing session or in the studio, it’s such a vulnerable space to just chat with people.’
SVRCINA is excited to be getting back on tour, and her upcoming shows will be a mix of worship events and even songwriting classes. ‘It’s a little bit of a variety which is great because again, it will give me an opportunity to get to know who I’m serving and collaborating with.’
For SVRCINA personally, the ultimate goal of her upcoming events is for people to be completely filled with the Holy Spirit, and out of that overflow to freely express what God means to them. ‘Whether it’s traditional contemporary worship or artistry, I just want to be able to display these things.’
There are many subgenres in the Christian music space that have different styles, but SVRCINA says the lyrics are still powerful. ‘They’re sharing the Gospel but it’s creatively super exciting. I’m so grateful to be able to collaborate.’
SVRCINA believes we are all worshippers at heart, but worship can look different for each of us. ‘The next generation of artists and creatives are going to have a whole different lens on life and be walking through different things than we are. To be able to collaborate together is really important.’
As an artist, SVRCINA continues to pray for guidance, and for the Lord to fill her and others in the industry with a boldness to step out in love. ‘I pray that God would just send His people into the harvest field in the entertainment space to fill it with the glory of God. And that we would be filled with wisdom and He would give us opportunities to minister to people.’
