Have you ever felt frustrated by the chaos that surrounds us? In this episode of Faith Boost, Pastor Andrew McLennan reminds us that even key figures in the Bible have felt the same. Today, he offers practical insights to help strengthen your faith with timeless, relevant ideas.
In Genesis chapter 18, we read about Abraham talking to God about Sodom and Gomorrah, two cities known for their evil ways. The chaos in those cities reminds us of the craziness we see today. However, even when things seem out of control, God is present, watching over everything, and working out His plans.
Even when the world feels like it’s falling apart, God is still active and has a purpose. Instead of giving in to despair, Abraham chose to talk to God, pleading for the people of those cities. Andrew encourages us to do the same. Instead of retreating in fear, believers should stand strong in their faith and pray for their neighborhoods, cities, and countries.
‘I believe today God is looking for people,’ says Andrew. ‘Men and women like you and me. To stand on the mountain, to stand in the gap, and actually pray for the world in which we live. Pray for your city, pray for your nation. Pray for your community.’
Take Action Through Prayer
Andrew expands on this idea further, quoting from Ezekiel 22, where God looked for someone to pray for the land but found no one. He encourages us to not just sit back and watch the chaos unfold. Instead, we should take action through prayer, like Abraham did.
‘I want to be someone the Lord can use,’ says Andrew. ‘So that He can do his will on the earth today. So the crazy doesn’t dominate what goes on in the world, but the Lord does. That His will will be done and His kingdom will come on this earth just like it is in heaven.’
One historical example Andrew mentions is John Knox, a leader of the Protestant Reformation in Scotland, who was inspired by John Calvin. Knox prayed passionately for his nation, famously saying, ‘Give me Scotland or I die.’ His commitment to prayer helped lead to a major religious revival in Scotland and the growth of the Presbyterian Church, which still influences the world today.
Andrew calls on us to follow the example of Abraham and John Knox by actively praying for the world. By doing this, we can help make God’s will happen on earth, push back against the chaos, and let His kingdom show up in our lives today.
‘Let’s be that person,’ says Andrew. ‘That person who stands in the gap and says, God, do something in the world in which I live. Abraham did it. You can do it. And I can do it.’
