Last October, Glenn from Granville completed a 12-month stay in a Christian drug and alcohol rehab centre. During his time there, the caseworkers frequently used The Word for Today and V180 devotions to support the residents. After Glenn became a Christian, he started including the devotions in Bible study sessions, using them to mentor and guide other residents, helping them grow in their faith.
Glenn was a Christian many years ago but drifted away from his faith for about twenty years. While in rehab, he rededicated his life to Jesus and even got water baptised again. ‘That’s when I started running a Bible study and using The Word For Today and V180,’ he says.
The residents from the rehab centre attend church every week, where there’s a welcoming coffee lounge. This space serves as a comfortable space for them to relax, socialise, and connect with other members of the church community. ‘I regularly visit this coffee lounge to chat with other residents in the program,’ says Glenn. ‘I reconnect with those still in rehab, and encourage the new residents along the way.’
Making A Difference in the lives of others
Glenn is currently on the lookout for a job in the industry. He is particularly interested in roles where he can use his personal experience and newfound faith to make a difference. ‘Hopefully soon I’ll be working as a support worker in the alcohol and drug industry,’ he says.
