On this episode of Faith Boost, Pastor Andrew McLennan shares how God works in our lives, using the story of Samson from the Bible. He explains that God’s Spirit was with Samson from a young age, as mentioned in Judges 13:24-25. As Samson grew up, he felt God’s presence, learned to trust Him, and waited for His strength.
Andrew believes that Samson’s experiences help believers today connect and understand God for themselves. Philippians 2:13, says that God works in us to help us fulfill His plans. ‘God’s at work in you,’ says Andrew. ‘And God’s at work in me. How good is that? I’m glad He’s at work in me because I’m not perfect yet, and neither are you. He keeps working in us.’
Andrew encourages us that God is always at work in our lives, even though we make mistakes. There are certain places where we can feel God’s presence more strongly, and this is why it’s so important for us to have regular spiritual encounters in our lives. ‘You should be encountering God through relationships and fellowship in your local church,’ says Andrew. ‘All of us need a place where God moves upon our lives.’
God works in our lives
Andrew shares how important it is to worship, read the Bible, and pray together in church. Spending time with others who share our faith helps us grow spiritually. He also reminds us to appreciate the variety of churches, as different ways of worship bring richness to the church and keep us from relying too much on one leader.
Reading the Bible and praying are key times for encountering God. Andrew believes these personal practices can lead to deep connections with God, sometimes even more so than in group settings. He encourages us to be intentional about going to these spiritual places, just as Samson did.
Andrew also highlights the importance of relationships in our faith journey. He quotes Proverbs 27:17, which talks about how friends can help each other grow. ‘There are certain relationships that God has given you,’ Andrew says. ‘And when you spend time with those people, it sharpens you spiritually and the spirit of the Lord works upon you.’
God is Active
God is always active in our lives. ‘Let God move upon you in the place He’s called you,’ says Andrew. ‘ In your local church, or in friendships and relationships. In the Word of God, in prayer and in worship.’
