On this episode of 20Twenty, Shane Degan joined us to talk about an upcoming communion service planned for Good Friday in stadiums across Australia and around the world. The event aims to bring believers together to change their cities and strengthen their commitment to Jesus.
Shane is a full-time missionary and founder of Jesus Lovers, who is currently working from the United States. Shane has a unique background; he once spent time in jail and worked as an aerospace engineer at Boeing Australia before his life changed dramatically after meeting the Holy Spirit.
Since starting Jesus Lovers in 2017, Shane has taken part in many mission projects. Now, his goal isn’t only to organise big events, but to spark a spiritual revival that touches every believer’s heart. The Good Friday communion service is more than just remembering Jesus’ death, it’s about experiencing His love in a deep, life-changing way.
Bring Believers Together
“Events come and go,” says Shane, “but unless we’re getting closer to God and people are seeing Him and meeting Him, they won’t be transformed by His love. We know that when people are transformed, their families get transformed. That’s when cities and nations start to turn back to the Lord.”
Shane also highlights the disappointing reality of many large events which, despite their high production quality, often fail to bring lasting spiritual change. In recent years, he has pursued a deeper, more genuine experience of Jesus’ love in faith gatherings. He believes that this true connection with Jesus is what can ignite a powerful movement.
“The next generation are hungry for the real thing,” says Shane. “They want to know the love of God. They want to see that love that’s changed lives, and meet with that love in a very dark world.”
