Karen from South Australia called into Visionathon today to share what Vision means to her and her community. Karen’s hometown of Whyalla is currently grappling with the devastation of the steelworks closing down, causing job losses and anxiety for the community.
‘People are losing their jobs here,’ said Karen. ‘It’s a time of great uncertainty, and we need big, big prayer.’ As a way of dealing with some of these challenges, Karen turned to her faith. She made her shop into a little ministry where Christian music plays constantly, sparking conversations and offering hope to the community.
Karen is passionate about God and Vision, and by displaying verses like John 3:16 and creating a welcoming environment in the store that she runs, Karen helps start meaningful conversations, bringing the Gospel message into the daily life of the people who visit her shop. ‘When I first started going to church,’ said Karen, ‘I was going to my grandson’s assemblies and I would hear some of the music that was being played. I just love that music.’
But it was a lady from her church that introduced Karen to Vision. ‘She told me, there’s a radio station that you can listen to and it’s got all Christian music. So on went the music, and it’s never come off. It’s constantly playing in the background of my shop. It is constantly in my car. It’s just part of my life.’
‘God has made my shop a little ministry,’ said Karen. ‘I’ll tell you, I just love sharing the Gospel.’
Karen’s story shows us the power of community. She encourages others to join together with Vision to Advance the Gospel, believing that by working together, everyone can find peace and hope, especially during difficult times.
