On this episode of Faith Boost, Pastor Andrew McLennan shares the story from the Bible about a blind man who called out to Jesus, referring to Him as the Son of David and asking for mercy. Notably, Jesus did not correct him; instead, He embraced the title, affirming His identity as the Son of David.
When we think of David, we often remember stories like David and Goliath or his wrong choices regarding Bathsheba. However, there’s a much deeper meaning to David’s life and decisions. When people call Jesus the Son of David, it links Him to David’s legacy, and there is a significant reason for this connection.
“Spiritually speaking, there’s something really important about David’s life,” says Andrew. “Jesus allowed Himself to be called the Son of David. David had this ability to open things up to unlock heaven. He also had the ability to bind up the devil.”
The Son of David
In Isaiah 22:22, it is prophesied that the key of the House of David will be placed on the coming Messiah’s shoulder. In Revelation, Jesus fulfills this prophecy and confirms that He holds this key. “What David’s life shows,” says Andrew, “is that even though people can mess up and make really poor choices, God is the God of a second chance.”
Andrew emphasises the importance of learning from David’s life. His journey shows us the need to draw close to God, understand His nature, and pursue greatness. As a formidable military leader who never lost a battle, David’s resilience teaches us how to overcome challenges in our own lives.
“We need to study the scriptures about David,” says Andrew, “and use the same principles or keys that he used to draw near to God. To know God, to walk with God, and also to kick goals in life. The only historical figure I know that never lost the battle is King David.”
