Australia is a vast, beautiful country, and one of the best ways to explore all the hidden gem communities Australia has to offer is to take a road trip. That’s exactly what Gwynne from The Gap in Queensland did, taking her daily devotional, The Word For Today with her. Little did she know that she was going to immensely bless someone with that copy.
‘We went on a road trip through New South Wales to Victoria. We got to Mildura and decided to go to Broken Hill because we hadn’t been there before. Then we kept going out to Lightning Ridge,’ said Gwynne. ‘When we were finding out what to do, we heard about these Artesian baths—hot springs.
We went there on Saturday night and got talking to a fellow there, as you do. It’s a very social place. He asked us what we were doing the next day. He was a fellow traveller. I think he’d been in Lightning Ridge for a few days,’ continued Gwynne. ‘We said we were going to church the next morning and then heading on, and he said, “Oh, I haven’t been to church for a while. I’ve been thinking I should go. Actually, I saw a community church in town and thought of going there.” We said, “That’s the one we were planning to go to.”
So, he came along and we met him at the front and gave him our copy of The Word for Today. I always keep one in the car so that as we’re going through all these towns all around the countryside, we can look up the frequency and tune in to Vision. So that was really handy to be able to hand it to him and say, “when you’re on your travels, here’s how you can tune into Vision Radio.” Then I pointed out the devotions so he could read them too.
He came into church and sat with us. The people in the church were so friendly and invited us for morning tea in their hall. … They were so kind and friendly. I think it was probably a really lovely experience for him as it was for us.’
A simple act of friendliness towards a stranger can have huge ramifications. We never know what someone is going through. Love in action is taking the step to share your faith in a non-intrusive way and giving what you can to help others. Whether it’s your time, finances, help, a listening ear, or your copy of The Word For Today!
Australians may not be hungry for food, but many are spiritually hungry and searching for truth. Jesus can offer them what no other religion in the world can offer—eternal life!
Gwynne was able to make a connection with this stranger, offer him a physical resource (The Word For Today) and show him how to tune in to Vision so he had 24/7 access to help him look to God daily. What an inspirational story!
Just like churches, it costs money to run Vision and keep spreading the Gospel to the four corners of Australia. It costs $1,000 to keep a high-powered Vision station running for a week.
We hand over our money for all sorts of things every day without giving it a second thought. It might be to buy a cup of coffee, put petrol in the car, or go out for lunch.
A donation to Vision is far more than just a transaction. It’s an investment in helping people focus on God’s Word. Something that will change their life and last for all eternity.
