In this 5 part series of Set Free, Ken Legg explores the concept of salvation and fully trusting in Jesus. What is the difference between genuine faith in Christ and the profession of faith? Ken highlights that Christians can often be misjudged based on their failures instead of focussing on the grace of Jesus. Salvation is not about behaving well, but believing in the work Jesus accomplished on the cross.
Ken discusses the idea of eternal security. He acknowledges that some who profess faith in Christ may not exhibit life changes associated with genuine conversion. Referring to the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, Ken illustrates that both true and false believers grow together within the church. He cautions against judging who is saved, stating that only God knows a person’s true state of faith.
Fully Trusting in Jesus
Ken distinguishes between an ‘awakened soul’ and a ‘regenerated spirit.’ He believes that many may feel a draw to Christianity without fully trusting in Jesus. He shares the example of Judas Iscariot, who outwardly followed Jesus but was ultimately identified as unsaved. This story leads us to a broader understanding that spiritual transformation results from genuine faith, rather than mere social engagement with Christian practices.
Ken reassures us that true salvation is enduring. Even if we falter, our faith in Christ secures our position in God’s Kingdom, provided we maintain our trust in the sacrifice of Jesus. He continues to emphasise the importance of true faith over appearances in the Christian community. We know that we are saved when we have fully trusted in Jesus for our salvation.
‘I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place,’ says Ken. ‘Even though I’m not what I should be, I’m trusting in what He did.’
