Support for Christian-Owned Businesses

by | Apr 1, 2025

Running a business can be challenging, especially when it involves balancing Christian values with business goals.

On this episode of 20Twenty, Mark Tapping from Good Work Investments joined us to talk about helping Christian business owners grow their businesses while staying true to their faith. He shared how running a business can be challenging, especially when balancing Christian values with business goals.

Mark points out that traditional ways of getting funding, like asking family and friends or taking out bank loans, often aren’t enough. When businesses need to expand, they typically want funds that not only help them grow but are also aligning with their Christian values.

Mark noticed a lack of funding sources that cater to businesses needing support that fits their faith. That’s where Good Work Investments comes in. “We take equity,” says Mark. “So we’re invested in the company. But our commitment is that we’re founder focussed. Our thesis is if we can help the founder flourish, then the whole company will flourish.”

Balancing Christian Values with Business Goals

Good Work Investments has created a special fund to help companies founded by Christians. The entrepreneurs who receive financial support are those that are focussed on creating positive impacts, not just making money. Mark believes that when a founder has a strong faith and a genuine relationship with Jesus, it influences how the business operates and grows sustainably.

“In our team,” says Mark, “there’s some real experience and success within our network. So depending on the company, we can bring the right people alongside to help it. We genuinely care. Our first question to any founder is to tell us about their walk with Jesus.”

Mark also mentions that many Christian businesses care more about people and the community than just making profits. And while profits are necessary for sustainability, they shouldn’t come at the expense of ethical and Biblical values.

“Our first intention is to leave people better than we found them,” says Mark. “And enable them to do what they’re passionate about. But if we can do that practically through investment, that would be a great result.”

Mark’s encourages those who feel called to grow their business in a way that honours God to reach out to Good Work Investments. “We want to help businesses with Christian founders succeed,” says Mark, “so that they can increase the impact they’re having on people’s lives.”
