On this episode of Enjoying Everyday Life, Joyce Meyer talks about how important it is to spend time with God. Many people set goals in the new year, and Joyce believes it’s essential to make God a priority in our lives. With so many distractions around us, developing the habit of taking time for God is vital since He truly wants a close relationship with each of us.
Joyce shares some insights from the book The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life by Hannah Whitall Smith. She highlights how the author’s simple experiences with God have led her to a happy Christian life. It’s so important to apply God’s Word in practical ways instead of getting confused by complicated teachings.
Joyce shares her own struggles with understanding grace and feeling overwhelmed at times. Grace isn’t just a gift we don’t have to earn. It’s also the power of the Holy Spirit that helps us overcome challenges and live a victorious life. ‘Grace is available every day to help us all overcome,’ says Joyce. ‘And it’s by the grace of God that you can defeat bad habits and make good habits.’
Make God a Priority
But Joyce also warns us against using grace as a free pass to sin. True grace enables us to overcome our struggles and avoid living a mediocre Christian life. Many Christians find it hard to focus on their relationship with God due to daily life demands. But even though we live in the world, God should always come first in our hearts and decisions.
By admitting our need for God and relying on His strength, we can find the power to fulfill our calling. The apostle Peter teaches that through suffering, we often grow closer to God, learning to depend on His grace more. ‘If you notice when the apostles greeted people in their letters,’ says Joyce, ‘many of them start out grace and peace be multiplied unto you. Grace comes before peace. You never have peace if you don’t understand that you can’t do it on your own.’
Each day should start with a commitment to God, trying to align our desires with His. This relationship brings us peace and purpose, showing us how much we rely on Him for success. ‘Grace is the power of the Holy Spirit coming to us free of charge,’ says Joyce. ‘It’s a free gift. The only thing you can do to get grace is spark it’s power. It’s not just undeserved favour, but it’s power.’
‘That’s why when we see the fullness of the Holy Spirit, we receive power.’
