US President Donald Trump’s chief faith advisor Paula White-Cain has been accused of promising seven “supernatural blessings” for Easter season donations of US$1,000 (A$1,500) or more to her ministry.
On her website and social media, the televangelist has a special offer for what she calls the Passover Season when “your obedience to align yourself with the desires of God” can “release seven specific supernatural blessings for your body, your family, your finances and your future.”
In a video sermon posted to the Paula White Ministries YouTube page, the Head of the White House Faith Office shared a message titled “Passover Season: God’s Divine Appointment with You!”
Pastor White preached about the saving blood of Jesus, which God’s followers are to commemorate for their deliverance.
“I believe that when you honour God on Passover, starting on April 12 at sundown through Good Friday on the 18th and concluding on Easter Sunday, you can receive these seven supernatural blessings for you and your house.”
“According to Exodus 23: God will assign an angel to you. He’ll be an enemy to your enemies. He’ll give you prosperity. He’ll take sickness away from you. He will give you long life. He’ll bring increase in inheritance. And he’ll give a special year of blessing.”
“You’re not doing this to get something, but you’re doing it in honour to God, realising what you can receive.”
“We always bring to God. Ministry takes money, and if you have the ability to stand with us, I want to ask you to put your faith, during this very holy time.”
“Because I give just to give, and I pray there are others, but also know we want to get you some special gifts.”
A male voiceover presents a more direct call to give throughout the video.
The video includes calls to “honour God with your Passover/Easter Resurrection Offering” of different amounts which gets people a “Holy Land Communion Set.”
It includes two olive wood cups, grape juice and unleavened bread from Israel and an instruction booklet “on how to celebrate the Lord’s supper” all in an “attractive, commemorative boxset.”
Donors would also get Pastor White’s Passover devotional book, her DVD series and a “special disc on communion.”
With these items in hand: “You can join Paula in taking communion during our special Good Friday online GLOBAL communion service.”
More generous donors get a special treat.
“For your special Passover offering of US$1,000 or more as the Holy Spirit leads, you will also receive the “beautiful 10-inch Waterford crystal cross.”
Paula White who has long been criticised for her ‘prosperity theology’ called Passover “one of the most life-changing, miracle-working seasons of the entire year.”
“Passover is all about the blood, and you will see signs, wonders, and miracles, and great, great works of God,” she said.
Pastor White also talked about the deliverance that her son — a former addict and atheist — received after she sowed “a seed for his deliverance” by anointing doors with oil and taking communion.
The purpose of such miracles, she added, is “for all people to see, so that you can testify to the goodness of God.”
Baptist News Global noted that Exodus 23 ironically begins with the words: “You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with the wicked to act as a malicious witness. You shall not follow a majority in wrongdoing; when you bear witness in a lawsuit, you shall not side with the majority so as to pervert justice.”
Conservative influencer Jon Root, who is a supporter of President Trump said: “Anybody that you know holds true to strong Biblical conviction and discernment wouldn’t be involved with Paula White.”
Evangelist and author Justin Peters shared a photo of Paula White praying over the president with the message: “I may vote with a false teacher, but I will never, ever, under any circumstances, pray with one or participate in any spiritual endeavor of any kind with one.”
Pastor Jason Gudim, who is based in Minneapolis and presents the podcast Being Lutheran Podcast, said: “If you give Paula White a grand, the only thing you’ll ever be is poorer in every conceivable way imaginable.”
