When tragedy strikes, it can feel like the end. This is something that Vision supporter Laurie knows all too well. The sudden loss of his son in a horse accident shook Laurie’s family and community to its core.
Laurie shares how the funeral of their son, Stephen, was a turning point for their family. With 300-400 people attending, many shared stories of Stephen’s humour and character, and some remarked how his funeral felt like a celebration. This led Laurie and their family to see the need for a community church, and with the encouragement of a friend, they started a church in the mid-90s.
What began as a small family-focused church with many young people has grown into a vibrant, mission-oriented church. Now, it’s not only a place of worship but also a fellowship hub, where they’ve raised over $30,000 for missions in the past year.
‘Our eyes are wide open now,’ said Laurie, ‘and we often wonder how God works in situations and why He allows things to happen. But, you know, out of bad can come a lot of good. And we’ve just been so totally blessed by what we have seen and what is happening.’
Even through such incredibly tragic circumstances, Laurie’s story is a powerful message about the impact of faith and community. ‘God works in mysterious ways,’ he said. ‘And as long as we live, we’ll never understand the mind of God or how He works.’
Now is the time to join Laurie and countless others in advancing the Gospel together! Your support can help tell the stories that bring hope and comfort to those in need. Donate today at vision.org or call 1800 316 316 to be part of this incredible mission.
