Vision’s radio station in Canowindra, New South Wales, went to air on the 8th of March 2024. This is Vision’s 79th radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 818th station overall.
Canowindra has a population of 2,437 and is located approximately 307 km west of Sydney via Bathurst, a 30 minute drive north of Cowra, and 50 minutes southwest of Orange.
Canowindra is a historic village famous as the hot air balloon capital of Australia. This quaint town has preserved its colonial history. Blind Freddy’s Bushranger Tours offer walking tours. Your tour guide will entertain you with stories of bushrangers and the days of the gold rush. It’s a popular way to experience Canowindra’s history.
If all the touring is making you thirsty, The Royal Canowindra Hotel, established in the early 1850s is the place to stop for a rest and learn about how it became famous in 1863 when bushranger Ben Hall and his gang bailed the whole town up in the pub for three days.
The Canowindra Historical Society Museum depicts the development of Canowindra since the 1840s, and well worth a visit for history buffs. If that history is not old enough, you may be intrigued to hear that in 1955 thousands of rare Devonian fossils, including bizarre fish with crushing jaws were uncovered in rock beds. These are housed at the Age of Fishes Museum.
To refuel your energy and get some shopping therapy, you may want to visit Perennialle Plants Nursery, Cafe and Emporium, The Melissa Barber Galleries, or Gaskill Street.
So, whether you’re a local or visiting, you can now tune in to 88.0 FM and be blessed by God’s Word being spread through Vision Radio and the supporters who made it possible. It might just change your life!

The cost of establishing a new transmission site depends on the output power and unique site requirements.
Low power licences (ideal in a small country town, for example) typically cost less than $10,000 to establish. This includes the satellite receiving and FM retransmission equipment, the cost of the licence itself, basic local marketing, and program supply via satellite for the first year.
High-power licences and transmission sites are more expensive (but they do have much greater reach).
