Vision’s radio station in Murrumburrah, New South Wales, went to air on the 9th of March 2024. This is Vision’s 78th radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 817th station overall.
A local called Vision with a proposal to help them find hosts in Harden and Murrumburrah, known as the twin towns, as it only takes six minutes to travel between the two. Steve and Wendy were very keen to host Vision Radio. They are the owners of the Barnes Store Emporium Café.
The Harden-Murrumburrah twin town region has a population of 1,789 and is located around 3 hours and 35 minutes (approx. 338 km) south-west of Sydney, and around 90 minutes from Canberra, and 30 minutes from Young.
Murrumburrah is a historic town linked to the railway town of Harden. The town of Murrumburrah was founded in the 1840s on Murimboola Creek. In 1877 a major station on the Sydney-Melbourne railway line was established a mile up the hill. Murrumburrah remained the township, while the station became known as Harden.
Before European settlement, the area was inhabited by the Wiradjuri people. The name Murrumburrah came from a sheep station established in the late 1820s called Murrumburra. Gold was found in the area in the 1850s and in 1858 the townsite was gazetted as the name Murrimboola which was a Wiradjuri word meaning ‘two water holes.’
Murrumburrah is also a rich agricultural area producing wheat, oats, canola, lupins, mustard oil seed, cherries, strawberries, peaches, nashi pears, nectarines, plums, and apricots from its rich soil.

The cost of establishing a new transmission site depends on the output power and unique site requirements.
Low power licences (ideal in a small country town, for example) typically cost less than $10,000 to establish. This includes the satellite receiving and FM retransmission equipment, the cost of the licence itself, basic local marketing, and program supply via satellite for the first year.
High-power licences and transmission sites are more expensive (but they do have much greater reach).
