About
For John and Andrew, it wasn’t enough to listen to John the Baptist. Most of us would have been content to be around the nation’s most famous evangelist. Could there be a better teacher? Yes. And when John and Andrew met Jesus, the One about whom John the Baptist spoke, they left John and followed Him. Notice the request they made: ‘… ‘where are You staying?’… ‘Come and see.’ They came and saw…and remained with Him…’ (John 1:38-39 NKJV) They wanted to know Jesus; to find out what caused His head to turn and His heart to burn and His soul to yearn; to look in His face and follow in His steps. They wanted to know if He could be who John said He was-and if He was, what on earth was He doing? And you can’t answer such a question by talking to others, you’ve got to spend time with ‘The Man’ Himself. Jesus’ answer to the disciples, and to you, is, ‘Come and see.’ See what? (1) See how He handles power. Not once did Jesus use His power to impress others or enrich Himself in any way. (2) See how He handles people. He didn’t see them as interruptions, irritations or obstacles on His path to personal fulfilment. No. ‘…when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion…’ (Matthew 9:36 NKJV) (3) See how He handles priorities. ‘…vast crowds came to hear him…But Jesus often withdrew to the wilderness for prayer.’ (Luke 5:15-16 NLT) Did He know something we don’t? No commitment is harder to keep, or more important, than spending time in prayer each day.
