For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
Mandy shares her reflections on this verse…
What I really love about this verse are the words, ‘and this not from yourselves,’ and the reason I love them is that it reveals that the faith I exercised to come to salvation wasn’t mine, it was a gift straight from God.
My salvation had nothing to do with me. I did nothing to gain it, earn it or deserve it. Quite the contrary. The very act of faith necessary to believe in Him was a gift given to me by God.
My salvation was 100% a work of Christ. Every. Single. Bit.
If salvation was up to me, I’d mess it up for sure because I’m a fallen human being and that’s what fallen human beings do. I thank God that my salvation was bought and paid for by Jesus, He gave me the ability to have faith and believe, and my eternity is nestled securely in His hands. Thank God for that, because if it was left up to me, I’d mess it up for sure.
The other great thing about this amazing gift of faith for salvation is that I can’t claim even a sliver of credit, it all belongs to Jesus. 100% glory goes to Him.
