About

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.
Ephesians 5:19

Nathan shares his reflections on this verse…

Have you ever watched a musical and wondered what it might be like if life was really like that? Where people would spontaneously start singing and dancing (perfectly). I love singing, and I will confess I have definitely dreamt about how cool it would be if life were like that sometimes.

But I don’t think that is what this verse is trying to tell us. When I consider this verse, instead, I think about singing worship songs, and I am reminded of how that impacts my thoughts and emotions for God.  As I sing, thoughts become clearer, negative emotions settle. Joy fills my heart, and I can’t help but love.

I think that is one of the intents behind this verse. As we talk to others and to God, our conversations need to be encased with love and joy. Of course, that is much easier said than done, and I have often had conversations that didn’t reflect this verse. But I know that as I seek first His kingdom, and as I fix my eyes on, He who is able to catch me when I fall, more and more I will find myself speaking to others with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
