And teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:20
Henry shares his reflections on this verse…
Jesus’ instructions for us for when we go into the different places that he leads us to is very simple, teach them to obey me (Jesus). To become a follower of Jesus we need to learn how Jesus lived, how Jesus responded, how Jesus treated others.
Knowing how Jesus lived his life gives us an example and framework on how to live our life today. So knowing what the Word of God says about Jesus, in turn, helps us to be able to teach this to others.
Do you know people that say things but they have never actually walked through them? Great storytellers but not very reliable. Another great encouragement that I get from this is that Jesus went before us, He lived the life that we should have lived and died in our place. He walked the talk. So when Jesus ends by saying ‘surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age’ you can trust that He will be with you. Wherever we go and whatever we go through in life Jesus is with us. That should bring us great comfort.
