About

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters. Psalm 23:1-2

Anish shares his reflections on this verse…

This is one of the favourite verses for many Christians. Our God introduced himself by the name Jehovah, and he has attributes that none can be compared to. The reverence for the name of Jehovah is very high that the translators used “LORD” instead while translating it. Jehovah is even known by different compound names throughout the Old Testament. And the beauty of this psalm is that most of the compound name of Jehovah is secretly imbibed into this beautiful song.

Jehovah Raah is a compound name of the LORD. It means: He is a friend (Judges 14:20), companion and shepherd (Ezekiel 34:11-15) who provides extravagant nourishment, protection, and rest for our weary bodies and souls.

Jehovah Jireh means that He will provide. Genesis 22:14 is a portrayal of the provider father.

Jehovah Shalom is the other name of God, which tells that the LORD gives peace. Gideon calls the LORD by this name in Judges 6:24.
So, these lovely verses of Psalms 23 can be encapsulated in three names:

The Lord is my shepherd: Jehovah Raah
I shall not be in want: Jehovah Jireh
He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters: Jehovah Shalom
