On this episode of TechWise, Brad Huddleston says “Despite the negative news surrounding technology, especially artificial intelligence, we should acknowledge that there are remarkable and beneficial technological advancements at work.”
Beneficial Technological Advancements in Surgery
“Robotic surgery increased from 1.8 per cent in 2012 to 15.1 per cent in 2018,” Brad says. He points out that this surge highlights how God gives us creativity to develop tools that bring healing.
How the Da Vinci Surgical System Revolutionises Care
“The Da Vinci is an almost eight-foot robot with four surgical arms,” Brad says. “With an extremely small incision, straws are placed into the surgical site. The robotic arms hold a camera and small instruments that can be brought in and out of the patient through the straws.”
“The robot translates the surgeon’s every move while allowing for wrist control. Which is not the case in traditional laparoscopic surgery. The robot is not performing the surgery, but aiding the human surgeon.”
Seeing God’s Hand in Medical Innovation
Brad quotes Wired magazine’s article Meet the Next Generation of Doctors and Their Surgical Robots to show that “one huge benefit compared to a traditional laparoscopic approach is that surgeons can now see a clear 3D picture of what they’re operating on.”
“This is one technology we can thank God for.”
