Evelyn called in to Visionathon today to tell us her story. She was raised in a Christian family, and her parents were pastors. But when she went to uni, she decided to walk away from God. Yet, her story is one of hope and finding her way back to God.
“It was a pretty rough time,” she said. “I had money, friends. But it was never quite fulfilling. My parents stopped talking to me about God, but they never stopped praying. They loved me quietly, faithfully, in the background.”
After 18 months away from her faith, everything changed on Father’s Day 2023.
Evelyn Returns to God
“I went to church on my own and the pastor preached about the prodigal son. I started crying. I’d done my hair and makeup, but I couldn’t keep it together. Then he sang Pride of a Father and I knew—God was calling me home.”
She rang a friend for prayer. A week later, she rang her mum.
“I said, ‘Mum, I want to come home.’ My dad had turned my old room into his office. But when I said I was coming, he took it all down within two days. They painted, bought me a bed and welcomed me back.”
Now Evelyn is also part of the Vision team, sharing her story on-air and encouraging others on their own journey.
“I’m so grateful for my parents and for Vision welcoming me back with open arms.”
Encouraging Others
Today Evelyn is one of the voices on V180, helping young people follow Jesus through relatable content, music, and encouragement. She shared Psalm 40:9–10:
I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly. I do not seal my lips, Lord…I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.
Her story reminds us of the power of prayer, persistence, and never giving up on the next generation.
