On this episode of Facing the Canon, J.John is joined by Dana Curtis, wife, mother, and faithful follower of Jesus. Dana shares her powerful journey through heartbreak, perseverance, and prayer after the premature birth of her son, Christian. A miracle in the making.
Dana grew up in a strong Christian home where the Bible was central. “Even as a child, I saw my dad read through the Bible every year. That made a big impression on me,” she says. At age 11, Dana committed her life to Christ and was baptised alongside her identical twin.
But as a single woman in her thirties, Dana deeply desired marriage. After hearing J.John speak at a conference, she asked him to pray for a husband. “You told me, ‘I believe the Lord is on your case,’” she says. “I went back to my room, wrote that in my journal, and within a year, I met David.”
A Miracle in the Making
At 17 weeks pregnant, Dana and David were told their unborn baby might not survive. Doctors advised termination, but Dana refused. “I was stunned,” she says, “but I gave my baby a name. Christian. Because he belongs to Christ.”
Born three months early and weighing just over 600 grams, Christian had a 20% chance of survival. Dana spent 277 days in hospital with him, enduring countless challenges. “It was mostly bad news,” she says, “but I wasn’t going to give up. We prayed for him every single day.”
During that difficult time, Dana clung to Scripture. “While I was pumping milk, I read the red letters in the Gospels. The Word came alive. God spoke to me like never before.”
All Things Are Possible
J.John sent her a verse that became a lifeline: “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you” (2 Kings 20:5). Dana wrote it on Christian’s hospital whiteboard and held on to it through every setback.
Today, Christian is sixteen and still a miracle in progress. “We need another miracle for our miracle,” Dana says, “but God has done amazing things. There’s no better place to put our faith than in Jesus. With Him, all things are possible.”
