Have you ever felt like you just can’t get it right with God? That no matter what you do, you still fall short? Many of us are carrying the burden of guilt and shame, believing that our mistakes are too big for God’s forgiveness. But that is not true.
On this episode of Enjoying Everyday Life, Joyce Meyer shares a message of hope and freedom. “The truth is that God loves us. He loves us unconditionally,” Joyce says. “Thankfully, He’s merciful. When we sin and do things wrong, He forgives us completely. He doesn’t even mention or bring up past sins.”
Carrying the Burden of Guilt and Shame
Joyce also encourages us that every single day is a new opportunity to start fresh with God. “God’s mercy is new every day. Every day can be a brand-new start,” she says. “God’s grace is amazing. We’re saved by grace. We can live by grace.”
But there is a danger of getting stuck in a cycle of sin, guilt, and condemnation. “I want to stir you up today to say I am not satisfied to just be mediocre or average. I am not satisfied to spend my whole life sinning, being condemned, finally being forgiven, getting out from under the condemnation, and then doing it all over again.”
Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
Sin is not just a problem because it offends God, but because of what it does to us. “God does get mad about sin. Not because of what it does to Him, but because of what it does to us,” Joyce says. “God wants us to have a good life. And He paid for us to have it by sending His only Son to die for us.”
But through Christ, we can overcome. “Anything that God asks us to do, He will give us the ability to do it,” Joyce says. “We have the ability to forgive anybody who hurts us. By His power, we can do whatever God asks us to do.”
God loves us tremendously, but one of the greatest honours that He has given us is free will. “Study the word of God,” says Joyce. “Be full of the word, forget about yourself, and live a life of helping other people.”
