Business coach and founder of Business Greenhouse, Wez Hone, recently joined us on Momentum to explore what is an often overlooked topic. Spiritual warfare, especially in the world of business. With his practical wisdom, Wez shares how Christian businesspeople can learn to fight in the spirit and walk confidently in their God-given assignment.
“In a world of a million demands, we default to the ones we can see instead of the ones we can’t,” Wez says. “If we were to elevate spiritual warfare and teach people how to fight in the spirit, they’d probably have fewer battles to fight in the flesh.”
Learn to Fight in the Spirit
Wez believes it’s important the we learn to recognise the true source of our struggles. “The Bible is super clear,” he says. “Our wrestle is not against flesh and blood. You need to know who the enemy is, and you need to know the tools to stand him down.”
He also warned against blaming everything on the devil, pointing out that spiritual warfare isn’t an excuse for poor decision-making. “There’s our own flesh, our own stupidity, and even the market. But when something’s being stolen, killed, or destroyed? That’s a sign of the enemy.”
Our first battleground, is the mind. “The enemy uses fear, doubt, and identity issues to hold us back,” Wez says. “But Jesus already won the victory. We just get to stand in it. Spiritual warfare only works because of the cross.”
Wez believes that standing firm is an active posture: It’s not passive. “It’s saying, ‘I know who I am. I know whose I am. And I will not quit.’”
Wez challenged Christian entrepreneurs to pray intentionally over their business, team, and opportunities. “If God has assigned something to you, contend for it. Stand the enemy down. Speak out loud. Because this is a voice-activated kingdom.”
The Importance of Balance
Wez shared that his team prays over leads and meetings, surrendering outcomes to God and silencing the enemy’s interference. “It’s not about obsessing over every outcome,” he says. “It’s about trusting God and refusing to let the enemy steal what’s yours.”
Wez also addressed the importance of balance: “What’s the point in building a billion-dollar business if your family falls apart? That’s not Kingdom success.”
Sometimes we may need to say no to good things in order to stay faithful to our primary assignment. “There’s enough time in a day to walk with the Lord, love your family, and do your work,” Wez says. “It just takes intentional choices.”
Wez encourages everyone to find their “secret place” with God. “Push back the noise. Sit with Him. If you get that right, the rest will follow.”
“What you bow your knee to on the journey will control you at the destination.”
