Each year on May 4th, fans around the world celebrate Star Wars Day with the iconic phrase, “May the Fourth be with you.” It’s a fun play on words from the famous line, “May the Force be with you.” But for Christians, this day can also be a reminder of a deeper truth: there’s a real force in the universe. It’s not fictional, but powerful, loving, and eternal. The Holy Spirit.
Star Wars is filled with themes of good versus evil, light versus darkness, and unlikely heroes rising up to bring hope. These are themes we all know well from the Bible. Just like Luke Skywalker had to trust something bigger than himself, we’re called to walk by faith and rely on God’s power, not our own strength.
A Powerful, Loving and Eternal Force
Jesus said, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12). While Star Wars tells the story of people chasing the light, we know the Light has already come. His name is Jesus Christ.
So if you and your family enjoy Star Wars, grab some popcorn, rewatch your favourite movie, and talk about the bigger picture. How do the stories reflect what we see in the Bible? What does it mean to fight the good fight of faith? How can we be a light in dark places?
Just remember: the “Force” might be a fun idea, but we’ve got something much better! A powerful, loving and eternal force. The presence of God with us, always.
