National Day of Repentance 2025

by | Apr 15, 2025

National Day Of Repentance

On Easter Monday, 21 April 2025, Australians are invited to participate in the National Day of Repentance, a solemn occasion to seek God’s mercy and healing for our nation. Organised by the Canberra Declaration alongside other Christian leaders, this day underscores the belief that national transformation begins with genuine repentance.

Australia’s founders built the nation on Christian principles. In 1901, approximately 96% of Australians identified as Christian, with many attending church regularly. These foundations fostered strong families, religious freedom, and a respect for life. However, by 2025, societal shifts have led many to feel that the nation has strayed from these values.

The National Day of Repentance draws inspiration from 2 Chronicles 7:14, which tell us:

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

God’s promise of healing is contingent upon genuine repentance.

Transformation Begins With Genuine Repentance

The National Day of Repentance will also feature gatherings outside Parliament House in Canberra. These will be both online and via Zoom, running from 9 AM to 5 PM AEST. Participants are also encouraged to engage in prayer, worship, and intercession. They can either attend the main events or organise local gatherings in their communities.

Drawing from biblical examples like Daniel and Moses, who interceded on behalf of their nations, organisers also emphasise the power of standing in the gap. As highlighted in Ezekiel 22:30, God seeks people who are willing to intercede for their land.

For more information and to register for the National Day of Repentance, please visit the Canberra Declaration website.

Let us come together humbly, seeking God’s forgiveness and restoration for Australia.
