Vision’s radio station at Armidale, NSW, went to air on 29 November 2022. This is Vision’s 53rd radio station out of the 100 stations 2021-2023 project and the 791st station overall.
The installation was challenging after our technician, Will, spent a day without a ute, then battled a day of storms, followed by a day of over 50km/hr winds, to finally be graced with one fine day.
Armidale is located 475 km north of Sydney on the New England Highway and 460 km southwest of Brisbane. It stands 980 metres above sea level and boasts spectacular waterfalls and gorges among world-heritage national parks. Armidale is a beautiful historical town where you can take a walk on the self-guided Heritage Walk which will take you to 34 places of interest. Some of these include the Sheriff’s Cottage, built in 1870; the New England Hotel, opened in 1857; Ursuline Convent, built in the 1860s; the Town Hall, completed in 1883; the Folk Museum built in 1863; the Judith Wright Monument, built to commemorate the Australian poet, the University of New England, and multiple cathedrals and churches. There is much to see either by car, on foot or by cycling around the city through the nine picturesque cycleways.
Prior to the arrival of Europeans in 1832, the Anaiwan and Kamilaroi Aboriginals were the dominant groups in the area.
