Documenting Heartbreak Of Children Changing Their Gender

by | Dec 13, 2024

A new book tells the stories of devastated Australian parents who experienced their children being deceived into believing they can be the opposite sex.

It chronicles the accounts of nine families who say their lives have been torn apart by what they consider to be the betrayal of government policies and our health and education systems.

For many, it’s the first time they have publicly told their story of the heartbreak of losing their children to a harmful ideology; their feelings of powerlessness as their kids are groomed online; and the devastating impacts on their marriages and children.

The promotional material says: “These parents have been silenced by a system that prohibits any dissent or questioning of a child expressing a desire to transition their gender.”

“Their stories shed light on the sinister tactics of the gender industry and the activists working to separate children from their families. By sharing their stories, these parents hope to inspire others to trust their instincts and fight for their children before it’s too late,” it continued.

The book is titled Devastated. The subtitle is: How Gender Ideology Is Tearing Australian Families Apart.

It has been compiled and edited by Christian women’s and children’s rights advocate Kirralie Smith who founded Binary Australia.

She told Vision Radio: “It’s taken us nearly all year and it’s been a very harrowing project because we’re dealing with real families who are still experiencing the very raw and vulnerable experience of having children captured by this gender ideology.”

“We’ve needed to tread very carefully and be a voice for these parents who have been so voiceless in this whole political environment and who have been really betrayed by the education and health systems in many, many ways.”

“They’re stories of boys and girls and their families like yours and mine. Just parents and siblings who want the best for their kids.”

“Their children have different underlying issues, such as being on the spectrum or autism or trauma or bullying.”

“The parents have done what you and I would do. They’ve taken their children to a psychologist or psychiatrist or their GP. They’ve talked to school counsellors.”

“They’ve followed the processes that each one of us would normally follow. But every step along the way, they’ve been betrayed.”

“Schools have hidden information from parents, or medical practitioners have said one thing to parents and something totally different to the children.”

“They’ve affirmed the children’s confusion and incongruence and really deceived the parents along the way. It’s just heartbreaking to read these stories.”

“These parents have been accused of being transphobic and bigoted. Several have been told: Wouldn’t you rather have a live son than a dead daughter?”

“They’ve been told the only way to save their child is to give them harmful puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones.”

The consequences have been absolutely devastating physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally for these children and for the parents.”

“Parents have tried to do the right thing, but schools or government agencies have intervened and removed children from some families.”

“They have accused families of being abusive, simply because the parent wants to affirm the actual biological side of their child. ”

“The things that are common [with these children] are being on the spectrum, being bullied or having some sort of trauma in their life.”

“Nearly all of the children had way too much exposure online. They were groomed online or in their schools, through drama classes in particular.”

“It might be just nine stories in the book, but there are hundreds, if not thousands of families experiencing this around the country.”

“We’ve already had so many people contact us both before and after publishing the book to say that they’re experiencing exactly the same thing.”

The book includes advice to parents on pathways they can take to protect their children..”

Kirralie Smith told Vision Radio that: [Consultant psychologist and psychotherapist] Professor Diana Kenny contributed two chapters. She has some really practical tools on how to recognise what’s going on, and steps to support your child through their difficult puberty years.”

The book was launched at Parliament House, Canberra with every federal politician and many state politicians receiving a copy.

Ms. Smith encourages the public to urge their MPs to read it and better understand the issues involved.

“We know that around the world, in the UK and Nordic countries, even in New Zealand, they’ve stopped or reduced the use of these harmful drugs because there’s no data to back the use of such drugs.”

“There’s increasing evidence that they’re doing more harm than good. And it’s about time our politicians took this seriously and allowed there to be inquiries into these very, very harmful ideologies.”

“Not only political leaders, but community leaders, educators really need to read this book to understand what’s happening in family homes.”

“Your friends and family networks need to know that they’re not alone. I can’t tell you how many people reach out to me and say they feel so alone.”

“Even contributors to this book were just amazed at the other contributors. They had been so isolated in this whole journey because they’d been called names like transphobic and bigoted and hateful and uncaring, when in fact they’re anything but.”

“They’re the most kind, compassionate, loving parents you will ever wish to meet.”
