For KING & COUNTRY is gearing up for the Christmas season in a big way.
Aussie Christian artists Joel and Luke Smallbone will be taking their A Drummer Boy Christmas tour to Los Angeles, New York, Nashville and London in December.
But Americans and Australians will also be able to see them on the big screen.
Just months after the Smallbones brought their family’s story to the big screen in biopic Unsung Hero, the duo is heading back to cinemas for a very brief season of a film version of their concert called A Drummer Boy Christmas Live.
It will screen in the US from December 5 to 9 and then in Australia on December 13, 14 and 15.
Joel Smallbone told CBN News the 100-minute film will deliver a “sonic journey that blends the sights and sounds of the season with musical mastery, heartwarming storytelling, and dazzling production.”
“One of the things that we love is Christmas tours. We’ve done one almost every year since the beginning of the band,” he added.
But because it’s logistically impossible to perform in many locations next month, they have turned last year’s Christmas performance in front of 12,000 fans in Houston, Texas into a musical movie production to be shown in more than 1,000 US cinemas.
“It’s really beautiful. This year, more than ever, I feel like we desperately just need to kind of keep the main thing the main thing, and these great hallmarks of humanity that are love, and joy, and peace, patience, kindness, goodness. Let’s put them back in the driver’s seat this Christmas.” he told CBN News.
“A Drummer Boy Christmas Live is all about honouring the true meaning of Christmas,” Joel explained.
“This is singing about baby Jesus, and this is singing about the redemption of humanity, and this is singing about BC to AD,” he continued.
The band is going to take a break from touring over the coming year.
“We’re going away to write and record and we’re also going away to work on our next feature film that is going to production next fall (northern autumn),” according to Joel.
The band will return to performing after these upcoming projects are completed.
