Family First’s Lyle Shelton Runs For Senate

by | May 10, 2024

The National Director of Family First Lyle Shelton will lead the party’s New South Wales Senate ticket at the next federal election.

Mr. Shelton said the Family First Party has “a vision to restore the nation by promoting, encouraging and protecting the most important group unity of society — the married, heterosexual family and its extended expression which is inclusive of non-married relatives and strangers alike.”

“Strong families with good mothers and fathers make strong communities which in turn make a strong nation. Family, faith, life and freedom are the keys to a flourishing society. It’s time to put the best interests of the child at the centre of public policy, ahead of adult lifestyle choices,” he declared.

The party is positioning itself as a genuine alternative in state and territory elections later this year. “Family First seeks to fill the leadership vacuum in politics and give values voters a home. While it welcomes people of all faiths and none, its core values promote the Judeo-Christian ethic upon which Australia was founded as the basis for civil society,” he asserted.

Mr. Shelton wrote in the Daily Declaration that the party is seeking to raise principled and courageous candidates in the Queensland and ACT polls in October. He pledged Family First will put family values back on the ballot paper in Queensland to fill what he calls the ‘moral void’ left by Labor and the LNP.

Mr. Shelton added that the party is also building momentum to contest the ACT election in Australia’s most anti-family and anti-faith jurisdiction. He revealed the party’s Victorian Senate candidate Bernie Finn is criss-crossing the state on a Family, Life, Hope, Faith and Freedom tour.

The party director proclaimed that: “Those of us who are Christians understand hope. That hope is to be deployed for this world and for our children’s future. It is why you and I are embarked on the nation-building project of raising a better class of politician.”

His article in the Daily Declaration is headlined: “Australia’s political leaders are making life hard for families, bribing voters, can’t define the word woman, and have no idea how to confront a rising tide of antisemitism. Our country deserves better.” It continues: “Our nation is crying out for virtuous political leadership, but the current crop is clueless.”

Lyle Shelton observed: “Perhaps nowhere more is leadership lacking than in the rise of anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sentiment. The Albanese government seems more intent on placating Hamas-sympathising Muslim leaders, forgetting the terrorists’ slaughter of innocents and taking of hostages.”

On a positive note, he revealed that in a recent ADH-TV interview, Hobart Archbishop Julian Porteous told him Christian leaders needed to respond to the current hostile cultural environment by speaking up more, not less. The Archbishop stressed it is a shift the church needs to make.

“If only there were more like him,” Lyle Shelton pondered in conclusion.
