President Trump is expected to sign more than 200 executive actions on his first day back in the White House.
They would include executive orders, which are legally-binding, and other presidential directives like proclamations, which are usually not.
“Every radical and foolish executive order of the Biden administration will be repealed within hours of when I take the oath of office,” he declared ahead of his inauguration.
One of his major targets will be illegal immigration, but his determination to deport millions of undocumented migrants is likely to face enormous logistical challenges and astronomical costs.
He will seek to curtail or eliminate job protections for federal workers and could declare a national emergency related to energy as part of a significant number of actions targeting domestic energy production and the industries.
He told a rally of supporters on Sunday (January 19) he would stop transgender athletes from competing in female sports categories and hand back control of education to America’s states.
“You’re going to see executive orders that are going to make you extremely happy. We have to set our country on the proper course.”
Those orders are likely to include ramping up artificial intelligence programs, forming the Department of Government Efficiency, making records available related to the assassination of John F Kennedy in 1963, directing the military to create an Iron Dome missile defence shield and eliminating diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies from the military.
The BBC reports: “Presidents usually take executive action when they enter office, but the volume of Day One orders from President Trump could dwarf those of his predecessors and many are expected to be challenged in court.
The president is also expected pardon those convicted of taking part in the January 6 riots at the US Capitol in 2021.
